Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has accorded approval to a residential project, aimed at providing houses to all Punjab government servants at the time of their retirement, which would commence from July 30.
The chief minister gave the approval, while presiding over a meeting of Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation here on Wednesday, an official said.
Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Salman Ghani, Punjab Finance Secretary Salman Siddique, Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation Managing Director Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad and high officials of other concerned departments were also present in the meeting.
The chief minister envisages construction of residential colonies for government servants in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and other cities, at a cost of Rs 10 billion, during the next two years.
He directed the authorities concerned to make an offer within next 15 days, of a house to all government servants, from BS-1 to BS-22, at the time of their retirement, in addition to preparing necessary data of the interested government servants.
The meeting was informed that in this connection Rs592 would be deducted monthly from the salary of government servants falling within the category of BS-1 to BS-7, Rs799 from BS-8 to BS-16, Rs1,184 from BS-17 to BS-19 and Rs1,776 from BS-20 to BS-22.
Elahi also directed that the process of acquisition of land in all the cities of the province should be expedited for implementation of the housing project. He said that initiation of such a grand residential project would also promote allied industries, such as cement and iron, thereby generating great employment opportunities.
He emphasised that in these residential colonies quality-oriented infrastructure would be provided, including ensuring amenities like water, electricity, gas and telephone.
