Pakistan offered Preferential Trade Arrangement to Mauritius in order to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries. Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan stated this during his meeting with the Mauritius Minister of Commerce Premdut Koonjoo who expressed the desire to promote closer co-operation with Pakistan.
According to a message received here on Wednesday, Humayun Akhtar said the level of bilateral trade between the two states is US $40 million, which comprised mostly exports from Pakistan. Imports from Mauritius is less than US $1 million.
Mauritius could obtain raw cotton and yarn at affordable prices in order to sustain its textile knitwear sector in the wake of phasing out of Multi Fibre Agreement in January, 2005. Pakistan could also increase exports to the eastern and southern African region utilising the location of Mauritius as a hub. Humayun also met Prime Minister and President of Mauritius and exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international developments.
