China's summer grain output up

China's summer grain harvest rose 4.8 percent this year from last year to 101.05 million tonnes, the State Statistical Bureau said on Friday.
Summer grains, planted in the winter and harvested in the summer, are mainly made up of winter wheat and rapeseed. The bureau did not give any breakdown.
China's winter wheat output was about 83.1 million tonnes this year, a rise of three percent from 2003, according to the agriculture ministry.
The planting area for grain is expected to surpass 100 million hectares this year, up by one percent over the previous year. This follows five consecutive years of decline, said the bureau's spokesman, Zheng Jingping.
The planting area for cotton is expected to be up 10.6 percent and area under oil bearing crops is seen up 0.7 percent, he said without giving details.
Planting area for sugar crops expected to be down 5.4 percent this year, he said.
