Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has called upon the philanthropists to come forward for the help of the poor and down-trodden masses to get real happiness in the life, and they should contribute to the collective marriages of the daughters of poor people.
He stated this while addressing a collective marriage ceremony at the Public School for Girls in Leiah on Saturday, where 50 couples reunion was held.
The governor said that special instructions have been conveyed to the District Nazims to organise collective marriages in their respective areas, adding dowries, gold ornaments, and cash of Rs 10,000 were given to each couple.
He also visited the Wapda customer service centre, and asked the staff to redress the grievances of the consumers and avoid load-shedding during peak hours.
The provincial governor also visited the Agricultural Development Bank, Nadra swift centre, PTCL customers service.
Later, he was briefed about the performance of federal government departments.
Earlier, Khalid Maqbool said in Multan that people of Pakistan wanted the continuation of President Pervez Musharraf's rule, and with the induction of Shaukat Aziz as the prime minister, prosperity would come in the country because he is the best economist, who presented five budgets very successfully.
The governor said that world community had said that it is a good change in Pakistan. He also said Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain was taking people-friendly decisions and he was improving the performance of the all institutions, and also strengthening the Pakistan Muslim League.
The governor assured the people of addressing their grievances about agriculture and loan issues.
Nafees Ahmed Ansari, MPA of PML-N also called on the governor, and apprised him of his grievances, saying that his grant of Rs 5 million for development schemes was transferred to TMA because he belonged to the Opposition.
