Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said that the micro credit schemes are being initiated for jobless young people to enable them earn their livelihood.
He said this while addressing a ceremony of mass marriage held here on Saturday under the aegis of district government. District Nazim Layyah, Sardar Shahabuddin Sehr, District Nazim Jhang Sahibzada Hameed Sultan and prominent poet and play writer Amjad Islam Amjad were also present on the occasion.
During the mass marriage ceremony 52 young couples entered into wedlock. Necessary items of dowry and cash worth Rs 10,000 were also provided to each couple.
Addressing the ceremony, governor said the present government has changed the political culture of the country as it reaches people at their doorstep with an aim to redress their problems.
Governor also visited various department of the federal government including ZTBL, Nadra, PTCL and Wapda here. Addressing a public gathering at ZTBL, Khalid Maqbool said that a policy to give loans to landless farmers is under consideration.
Eulogising the agriculture package announced by President Musharraf he said that it would benefit the farmer community and result in greater produce. He said that the Prime Minister has also approved his recommendation regarding down payment from 25 percent to 10 percent to get loans for purchasing tractors.
The governor directed the ZTBL officers to take measures to give loans to women and skilled persons as well.
During his visit to various offices, he heard the public grievances and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials to redress people's problems on priority basis.
Governor maintained that all the federal government departments are functioning smoothly.
