Former New Zealand batsman Craig Spearman, now at English county Gloucestershire, said he would "love to" return to international cricket with England.
Next year Spearman, already allowed to play on the county circuit as a 'home' player thanks to his Welsh mother, will become qualified for England at international level, having served a four-year exemption from top cricket.
Despite his 19 Tests and 51 one-day internationals, the seemingly outlandish prospect of the 32-year-old Auckland-born Spearman representing England has been given added credence by his recent form.
On Saturday the right-handed opener's 143 not out at Gloucestershire's Bristol home ground steered the holders to a five-wicket C and G Trophy semi-final win against Yorkshire and another Lord's one-day final.
That came after his commanding Gloucestershire first-class record 341 against Middlesex last month where Spearman broke a mark set by cricket legend WG Grace that had stood for over a hundred years.
Spearman, however, tried to play down talk of representing England. "At the moment I don't think I'm eligible for anyone - and I'm not sure exactly when I will be."
