The prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) have been increased to Rs 26 per kilogram by Rs 1.05 per kg, from Rs 24.95 per kg, following increase of 5.6 percent for commercial tariff of natural gas.
A week earlier, the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) had gone up by 16 percent to Rs 36 per kg from Rs 30 per kg in the country's local market.
The President of CNG Station Owners Association of Pakistan (CSOAP), Khuda Buksh, told Business Recorder on Monday that the association members in Sindh province had opted for only 4.2 percent increase instead of 5.6 percent increase in natural gas tariff. The new price is being enforced from Tuesday.
"We have passed a benefit of '40 Paisa' to CNG consumers in the province and if we implement the actual increase the price of CNG per kg would stand at Rs 26.40," he added.
Khuda Buksh said, "We do not want to discourage CNG consumers and provide maximum benefit to them. After hectic consultation with CSOAP Sindh members on the CNG price decided to implement new revised rate of Rs 26 per kg."
He said the industry is growing rapidly and so far 513 CNG stations are operational and over 500,000 vehicles converted into CNG that also help promoting clean and green environment culture in the country.
He said, the motorists can save 58 percent of their fuel expenses by installing CNG in their vehicles.
