The Commission for Peace and Human Development has shown its deep concern over the ranking of Pakistan at number 142 out of 177 countries in the Human Development Index-2004, issued by the UN Development Programme.
Waseem Anthony, Commission's executive director, observed here on Monday that this situation was the result of lack of democracy, political instability and misuse of religion and being a hateful and non-tolerant society.
He observed that countries like Israel and India were placed in a better position than Pakistan, and the reason being for it that since getting independence these countries allowed democracy to flourish and has respected the will of the their people.
"This was the only way that human development could take place and the country would hold an honourable place among the other nations," he added.
