Pakistan Railways has completed computerisation of ticketing on all trains on its computer network in a major effort to provide computerised ticketing on all reserved seats.
This is a major accomplishment for the Directorate of Information Technology that has provided a new image for the Pakistan Railways along with customer satisfaction, says a spokesman of the Railways here on Tuesday.
According to him, one-window operations were now in effect at all ticketing counters eliminating long lines.
The new computerised passenger tickets would eventually eliminate the small cardboard ticket currently in use by the railways.
Currently, 500,000 computerised passenger tickets were being issued monthly, which were on the increase as the network of major stations grows.
He said that the Pakistan Railways was utilising the-state-of-the-art fiber optics networking technology.
Stations on the network were Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Lahore Cantt, Faisalabad, Quetta, Hyderabad, Multan Cantt, Karachi Cantt and Karachi City. Computerised ticketing and return reservations facilities were available on above-mentioned stations.
"Other stations schedule to be placed on the computerised reservation network in the near future are Sukkur, Rohri, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal," he added.
According to him, Sukkur computerised reservation office has also started pilot operations for local reservations on July 3.
The new reservation office has six computerised counters in operations. "This facility is fully air-conditioned providing passengers with fast, efficient and convenient service." he added.
