Partly Facetious: Chaudhry will be remembered in any case!

"The Chaudhry has decided that honour killings must stop."
Published July 21, 2004

"The Chaudhry has decided that honour killings must stop."
"He's right. But how will he bring that about?"
"Through a bill."
"I think the Chaudhry needs a bit of education. A bill passed by someone with absolute power is an effective way to control the politicians, maybe even members of the judiciary, but it is certainly not an effective way to control the people of this country or changing the way they have done things for centuries."
"So what do you suggest he does? Keep quiet."
"Well, our other PMs have remained quiet. Hey even our President, the man with the real power, has remained quiet on this issue other than touch upon it when foreigners have been present, so I don't know what the short term PM thinks he can achieve by the passage of a bill."
"Maybe he is getting ambitious and wants to be remembered..."
"He will be remembered in any case - he is the only short term PM that we have had...I mean we have had interim ones before - those who knew they would be dumped as soon as their time was up, but this one came on with the express purpose of electing another. So I don't think we will forget him in a hurry."
"Speaking of PMs not forgotten - I can't forget Nawaz Sharif either."
"Because of his stupidity in dealing with the Chief of Army Staff he himself had appointed?"
"No, because he was charitable. I mean Ittefaq hospital has done a lot of good for the poor of Lahore."
"Yes indeed. I mean I have never heard of any charity work undertaken by BB or Asif, or indeed Chaudhry or for that matter the man in waiting. But the Mians did do some good work."
"Our Brown Sahib did too..."
"Indeed. But he is suffering a divorce and..."
"And you think Nawaz is having a great time in Saudi Arabia?"
"I guess not. But what made you think of Nawaz Sharif?"
"You remember Albela, the comedian? He died in Ittefaq recently and Nawaz paid for the entire bill."
"Bill as in payment due rather than the passage of a bill you mentioned earlier."
"Indeed - astute of you."
