All Pakistan Trade Union Federation (APTUF) has announced to observe "Protest Day" on July 28, 2004, to condemn the growing price hike.
Addressing a meeting of the federation here on Wednesday, Gulzar Ahmad Chaudhry, its Central Secretary General, said that this decision was made in view of the continuous rise in inflation, dismissal of workers from public sector organisations, restrictions on trade union activities and recent increase in gas tariff.
According to him the present government is introducing its policies only to please the industrial community of the country. He demanded of the government to fix minimum salary of a worker at least Rs 7,000 per month.
He also pointed out that workers of various organisations will hold protest demonstrations in Lahore on July 28, adding "We will extend our protest drive to all over the country."
