Liffe robusta coffee futures ended slightly up on Wednesday after a routine session that was dominated mainly by short covering and speculative buying interest, traders said.
Arbitrage buying also helped to lift the market, although London gains were pared towards the close after New York futures turned lower, they added.
Benchmark September finished $4 up at $725 a tonne, having earlier peaked at $736 resistance. November added $4 to $736.
"The only real lift from London this afternoon has been against the arbitrage with New York," a trader said.
"There was also some spec buying early on, but I don't think there's been too much in the afternoon," he added.
New York arabica coffee futures rose in early trade on speculative and fund interest, but drifted lower after private forecaster Somar said rain was slowly clearing Brazil's coffee areas.
