Federal government has directed the provincial governments to establish provincial safety fund and district safety commission fund under Article 169 of Police Order 2002.
According to chairman Provincial Co-ordination Safety Commission Pakistan Hafiz Ahsan Khokhar on Friday, the directive has been made on behalf of National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB).
He said this was a long-standing demand of the National Co-ordination Committee for district public safety commission of Pakistan.
He said special grants would be given by federal and provincial governments for the safety funds, which will be utilised for improving public facilities at police stations, extension of police stations' buildings, and to award the police personnel, who would be showing outstanding performance.
The funds would also be utilised to provide drinking water at bus stands, for installing video cameras for security record alongside the roads etc.
He said that 50 percent of the fine money, collected by traffic police, would go to the concerned public safety fund, adding, philanthropists would be asked to make donations to the fund, which would not lapse by the end of fiscal years.
