Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has called for the start of work on the Basha dam project, which he said, is more feasible and beneficial than any other proposed water reservoir in the country.
He said that all provinces have also developed consensus over the project.
He was talking to newsmen at Governor's House after the oath taking ceremony of six more ministers in NWFP cabinet here on Friday.
He said that according to technical experts Basha dam is more beneficial and feasible and would also help double the life of the Tarbela dam.
There is no controversy over the construction of Basha dam as Sindh and Balochistan are also in its favour, saying that federal government should not stress on the construction of controversial projects like Kalabagh dam.
He said that if federal government want construction of water reservoirs for irrigation purposes, then it should provide funds for the construction of 20 small dams and Chashma Left Canal.
He said that the projects would cost Rs 30 billion. But would irrigate more than 85, 000 agricultural lands.
He said if federal government could give Rs 28 billion package for only Karachi then why Rs 30 billion would not be given for the development of the whole NWFP.
Regarding the induction of the new ministers, Durrani said that the central leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) have proposed the names of the MPAs.
He said that Dr Zakir Shah of the Markazi Ahle Hadith was included in the cabinet on the proposal of his party.
However, he said that Shah has great regard and he would not considered himself less than provincial minister.
Replying a query, he said that federal government should left ban on the entry of the central leadership of MMA into tribal areas, saying that they are peaceful people and no threat to the peace in the area. He said that wherever the leadership of MMA peace automatically restored as people respect these leaders.
