Pakistan International Airlines and Thai Airways International on Friday agreed to make optimum utilisation of available frequencies in the existing agreement and improve upon the economics of operation.
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two airlines it was also agreed that the two airlines would enter into dynamic code-share and free selling on KHI-BKK VV and LHE-BKK VV routes.
In this regard the two airlines will adjust their schedules and harmonise fares so as to avoid clash of flights and unhealthy competition. The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting of the two airlines held to discuss various possibilities of commercial co-operation between the two airlines.
In the signing of MoU the PIA delegation was led by Director Marketing, Syed Kamran Hassan while Vice-President Marketing Development and Support Pridi Boonsue represented Thai Airways International.
It was also agreed that the two airlines will endeavour to finalise all arrangements for code share in time to make this arrangement effective from start of winter 2004 scheduling period.
TG and PK will offer through-fares (PK-TG fares) for points beyond Bangkok and Karachi/Lahore respectively so as to have common selling levels for all points operated by the two airlines beyond these hubs. The two airlines will exchange proposals/rates through mail and finalise them by September l5, 2004.
Both the airlines agreed that commercial co-operation in terms of code-sharing between PK and TG will result in improved utilisation of the existing capacity and will provide opportunity, which will lead to increase in capacity entitlement of both the carriers.
The Thai side emphasised that reciprocal safety audit and agreement on liability issue must be finalised before entering into code share arrangements.
