Ports of Auckland Container volumes up

New Zealand's largest port operator, Ports of Auckland Ltd, on Thursday reported a two percent rise in container volumes for the year to June.
Container volumes rose to 662,170 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) for the 12 months to June 30. Full import container volumes rose 3 percent while full export volumes fell 1 percent.
Total container volumes were up 3 percent for the month, Ports of Auckland said.
Breakbulk (non-containerised) volumes, mostly imported vehicles, were unchanged at 4.6 million tonnes for the year, but down 15 percent for the month.
POA shares, majority owned by regional body Infrastructure Auckland, closed down four cents at NZ$6.90, compared with a year high of NZ$8.66, and a low of NZ$6.80.
Ports of Auckland handles around two-thirds of all New Zealand imports by value and one third of all New Zealand exports by value.
