Sindh once again is in the grip of water shortage which is bound to have negative impact on agricultural production.
The provincial irrigation minister confirm 29 to 25 shortage of water while talking with growers protesting against Irsa decision that growers would not be supplied water from the dams.
He said that Sindh government has already sent a letter to Irsa for supply of 30 percent more water to avert negative impact on crops in the province.
He said he would soon hold an open kutchery (public meeting) at Hyderabad to explain the water situation which is mainly on account of delay in monsoon rains in catchment areas and very slow process of snow melting. He said that no one could fight against the nature except that "we should pray".
The Chief Engineer Kotri Barrage when contacted expressed apprehension that shortage might increase in the next few days and hinted that in lower Sindh rotation system would be introduced for supply of irrigation water.
Meanwhile the growers were staging protest demonstrations to protest against shortage of water in various parts of the province.
The main victims of water shortage are rice growers who are claiming 50 percent production loss of rice crop.
