Four drug addicts have died after taking adulterated 'heroin' in Multan city, while two are in critical condition who were hospitalised.
Six unidentified drug addicts allegedly purchased chemically adulterated 'heroin' from a drug pusher of Gulshanabad Colony and took it in Langay Khan Garden on Saturday evening.
After taking the 'heroin', four of them died on the spot, while another two were in critical condition. Police were informed who took them to a hospital," residents of the area said.
"We have registered a case against unknown drug traffickers and are investigating the case and waiting for the medico-legal examiner's report to take action against them. However, we have deployed a number of teams to arrest the culprits," said Hamid Mukhtar Gondal, DPO Multan.
Residents of Gulshanabad told newsmen that there are more than half a dozen 'drug dens' in this area and police do not take any action against them because the concerned police station staff allegedly extorts handsome illegal gratification from them.
"Whenever any resident of the area submits a complaint against them, police involve him in false case, they alleged.
Seventeen drug addicts have so far died after taking the adulterated "heroin" in Multan city alone during last two months.
"Drug traffickers mix the hair removing powder, China clay and other chemicals in the heroin to increase its quantity to meet the demands of 60,000 addicts in Multan," said Professor Dr Khalid Ahmed, in charge of the drug ward of Nishtar Hospital, Multan.
