The dues recovery campaign of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) is yet to yield some significant results as a huge amount on account of arrears continues to be outstanding against public and private power consumers.
Chief Executive Hesco, Adib-ul-Hassan Rizvi indicated a few days ago that the company is still struggling to recover Rs 6700 million from private consumers of Sindh excluding Karachi.
The company however, has met reasonable success in recovery of dues from provincial government departments. Of total outstanding arrears of Rs 1802 million it succeeded in pulling back Rs 1267 million from the provincial departments, lowering recoverable balance to Rs 535 million.
The amount is coupled with Rs 329 million recoverable from federal government department in Sindh excluding Karachi.
Regarding line losses the statistics of Hesco indicate 0.4 percent increase in the year 2003-2004 as compared to the year 2002-2003.
According to the Company's Chief Executive the main reasons for line losses were lengthy service to service PVC, overloaded distribution T/F, 150,000 old sluggish meters, 200 lengthy and deteriorated feeders, 70 overloaded feeders, 50 deteriorated conductor feeders, increase in conductor theft, 70 percent power theft by the consumers through meter tampering, meter circuit tampering, partial load hooking by "kunda" system, power theft by non-bonafide consumers and through "kunda" system by 259555 permanent disconnected consumers.
