Sindh Minister for Planning and Development, Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, has said that Rs 400 million received from the federal government for drought emergency relief assistance (DERA) were distributed among 12 affected districts and Thatta received the highest amount of Rs 71.561 million.
The Sindh Assembly session began here on Monday, with Speaker Muzaffar Hussain Shah in the chair.
In a written answer to a question from PPP MPA Humera Alwani who wanted to know district-wise release of funds under 'DERA' and the number of ongoing schemes, the minister said that the federal government had released Rs 400 million under 'DERA' during 2003-04. This amount was distributed among 12 affected districts.
The minister said that most of the schemes had been completed and 111 schemes were under execution in Thatta and expenditure of Rs 285.451 had been incurred against the funds to the tune of Rs 334.360 million by the finance department.
The district-wise break up of 'DERA' is as follows: Tharparkar Rs 15.117 million; Sanghar Rs 37.168 million; Thatta Rs 71.561 million' Dadu Rs 39.841 million; Jaccobabad Rs 66.714 million; Badin Rs 16.526 million; Mirpur Khas Rs 22.811 million; Larkana Rs 23.705 million; Shikarpur Rs 16. 909 million; Sukkur Rs 14.424 million; Khairpur Rs 20.951 million; and Ghotki Rs 24.273 million.
