The Ministry of Tourism has chalked out a daylong colourful programme on the concluding day of the K-2 Mountains Golden Jubilee celebrations at Skardu on Sunday, August 1.
Famous mountaineers involved in successful climb of 8000 metre peaks- Pakistan has the largest number of these- have been specially invited to the anniversary celebrations.
The Golden Jubilee of K-2 coincides with anniversary of Nanga Parbat, which is nicknamed in mountaineering annals as "Killer Mountain."
The guest of honour will be Gianni Alemanno, Italian Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, while Lacedilli, who made to K-2 50 years ago will be among the distinguished guests.
The Ministry of Tourism is spending Rs 2.5 million on the celebrations, beginning on July 10.
The concluding day celebrations also include polo match at K-2 base camp, Skardu, laying of foundation stone of Skardu Mountaineering museum, and declaration of an Italian town, Cortina Deampazzo and Skardu as twin cities.
The postal department is issuing a commemorative stamp at a ceremony at Skardu. Besides, awarding certificates to the successful mountaineers of 8,000 metre peaks of Pakistan will be another historic occasion.
Iftikhar Satti, Manager of special events, PTDC, told Business Recorder that a large number of foreign dignitaries, officials, parliamentarians and local mountaineers and enthusiasts have been invited at the occasion.
