Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said the International Cricket Council (ICC) should allow for bigger squads for One-day tournaments considering the number of matches teams have to play which tend to make players more prone to injuries. "There is a problem if we have to pick a squad of 14. The International Cricket Council should consider that every alternate day there is high intensity cricket.
There are bound to be injuries to players in such a scenario," Ganguly told Aaj Tak. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has restricted the squads to 14 members for the Asia Cup tournament. "The squads should be bigger. For instance, if we want a replacement, then the player injured would have to leave and sent back home for another player to come in," he said Ganguly was referring to the problem that has arisen because of an injury sustained by middle order batsman VVS Laxman during nets two days ago. India are unable to ask for a suitable replacement as their second-string players are in Zimbabwe.
"The physio says Laxman can recover in three to four days' time. Now we have to think if it is worth it to send him back," Ganguly said. India are to play Sri Lanka in their last Super League match of the Asia Cup in Colombo where a win will assure them of a place in the final.
