The combined opposition staged walkout from the National Assembly on Thursday, accusing the government of political victimisation and not allowing the lawmakers to speak thereof.
Speaking on a privilege motion, Pir Aftab Shah Jillani from PPPP said that the government is victimising opposition lawmakers, who are involved in by-election campaign.
He complained that watercourses feeding his lands have been closed for rendering political support to his party candidate against prime minister-designate Shaukat Aziz.
Pir Aftab said that he had taken up this issue with Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and prime minister-designate Shaukat Aziz who, he said, had assured to restore his water supply but no steps have been taken yet in this regard.
Pir Aftab Jilani had also raised this issue on Wednesday that watercourses feeding his and his friends' lands have been closed to pressurise them into supporting Shaukat Aziz in the Tharparkar by-election.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Nouraiz Shakoor said that Pir Aftab Shah's complaint was a provincial matter and the centre could not provide any relief.
He said that the respective irrigation department would deal with this issue.
Siding with the minister, Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain also defended the government and said that that there should be no political victimisation of any opposition lawmaker.
He ruled the adjournment motion out of order and did not allow any opposition member to further comment on this issue. This whole scenario created uproar in the National Assembly, as combined opposition in the National Assembly staged walkout.
