Fire broke out in 11-storeyed Lakson Square Building No 1, situated at Sarwar Shaheed Road on Thursday morning.
The fire started at the ground floor of the building from its electric panels and spread to the entire floor within short span of time, entangling about 200 people present in various offices situated there. Though the fire affected nearby offices, the timely rescue operation from city fire brigade department averted any big disaster. Only few people received minor injuries, while others fainted due to heavy smoke.
According to fire brigade department, their timely and well-executed rescue operation saved lives of at least 200 people trapped in the fire, including 20 women. Officials of the department said that if the operation was not undertaken on time, the fire could have entangled the more floors of the high-rise building. They further mentioned that six fire tenders participated in the operation and brought the situation in control.
When KESC spokesman was contacted to explain whether the incident occurred due to short circuit, he declined and observed that probably the fire broke out due to faulty internal wiring of the building which was a responsibility of the owner of the building rather than KESC.
