Police and paramilitary forces in Karachi were put on high alert here on Friday amid fears of suicide bombing or other terrorist attacks, officials said.
"We have intelligence reports that suicide attacks may be launched, particularly on mosques belonging to the Shiite community," Karachi's Deputy Inspector-General Fayyaz Leghari told AFP.
Officials fear that members of Jund Allah, at large, and some other terrorist groups could launch strike at mosques or any 'sensitive establishments'.
"These terrorists are on the run and can attack mosques or any other important place any time," said Leghari.
"They can use explosive-packed briefcases, or such other methods, to strike," he said.
Karachi police has appealed to report any suspicious person or activity.
"We have reports of any possible attack and we appeal to people to adopt all sorts of precautionary measures," he said in a statement.
