A seminar on anti-dumping measures, being organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), will be held at the Federation House here on Saturday (July 31).
FPCCI Vice-President and Incharge of the World trade Organisation (WTO) cell Engr. M. A. Jabbar, said that the anti-dumping measures and their understanding and education can prepare the small and medium industry of Pakistan to understand its mechanism.
This would enable them to know the rights of domestic industry under the WTO framework and protect their interests against dumping of imports of similar goods from overseas, affecting the feasibility of working of domestic industry, he said.
The FPCCI Vice-President said the anti-dumping and its understanding could help in preparing of cases before national bodies, which, in case of Pakistan, was the National Tariff Commission.
During the investigation, the cost structure of other countries could also provide a comparison of level of cost of doing business, which might help in identifying areas in the country for necessary corrections in overall context of required industrial growth, he said.
The hue and cry in the country against competition with the imported goods required understanding as to how to protect the domestic industry by taking measures allowed by anti-dumping framework of the WTO, he said.
"What is required is understanding the case for putting before the National Tariff Commission, seeking imposition of anti-dumping duties," said the FPCCI Vice-President.
He said the presentation would help in understanding the anti-dumping framework within the WTO and our position under the legalised anti-dumping ordinance and obligations of the National Tariff Commission. "It will provide education as to what are the pre-requisites and conditions before seeking measures for imposition of anti-dumping duties on imports in Pakistan," he said.
