The secretary general of the 57-member Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) condemned Monday the "terrorist acts" against churches in Iraq, in a statement reported by the official SPA news agency.
"These acts totally contradict Islamic sharia (law), which stresses the sanctity of human life and (calls for) protecting and respecting the citizens of the state, including followers of other religions that are under the protection of the Islamic state," said Abdelwahed Belkeziz at OIC headquarters in the Red Sea city of Jeddah.
SADR CONDEMNS ATTACKS: A spokesman for radical cleric Moqtada Sadr on Monday condemned a wave of deadly church bombings in Iraq as a calculated "terrorist" attempt to stir up inter-communal strife.
"We strongly denounce these criminal acts aimed at nothing but creating strife among the united people of Iraq," said Ahmed al-Shabani from Sadr's office in the holy city of Najaf.
Declaring "solidarity with our Christian brothers in Iraq," Shabani said "we received the news about the attacks with deep grief".
"We announce our readiness to help apprehend the terrorists and our doors remain open for them, as we hope there's will remain open for us," he added, referring to the Christian community.
