Punjab police have arrested a hitman of banned "Sipah-i-Muhammad" after nine years who was allegedly involved in killing three worshippers in Islah-ul-Muslimeen Mosque, Karampur in Vehari district, some 80 km south-east of Multan.
"We have arrested a terrorist, Zahid Hussain (22), who was involved in firing at a mosque of Karampur and killing three faithfuls in 1995 who was absconding since this incident," said DPO Vehari, Muhammad Mukhtar Tikka.
He said that police have arrested four accused of this case and they were tried in Anti Terrorism Court of Multan and the court awarded death sentence to two accused and acquitted another two accused giving them benefit of doubt as the prosecution could not prove their indulgence in this case.
Zahid Hussain was produced before the court of Civil Judge/Magistrate Mailsi, Saad Salman and he was remanded to police custody till August 7 for the recovery of kalashnikoves, which used for killing three faithfuls.
Zahid Hussain is a resident of Katacha-Khuh (Khanewal) and he took refuge in the border area of Iran, police said.
