Russian Consul General Vladimir P. Mikhaylov has assured Pakistani exporters that he will take up the issue of discriminatory treatment with them against their competitors from India, Bangladesh, Turkey and East European countries with the concerned authorities in Russia.
He was referring to the complaints of Pakistani exporters to Russia, who pointed out that the Pakistan's exports were levied 33 percent duty against nil or at the most five percent import duty on the exports from its competitors.
They made the complaint to the Russian Consul General Vladimir P Mikhaylov during a meeting with President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Riaz Ahmed Tata at Federation House here on Wednesday.
The Russian Consul General said that the matter would be taken with the concerned government authorities, as his government too desired better trade relations with Pakistan.
He advised the FPCCI President and the office-bearers of Pakistan-Russia Business Council of the FPCCI to take up the matter with their government for discussing it with the Russian government.
He informed the meeting that the Commercial Section of Pakistan Embassy in Moscow would, for the first time, be appointing a commercial counsellor there.
Tata said that the organisation of Pakistan's single country exhibition in St. Petersburg from October 6 to 9 would be greatly helpful in introducing and promoting Pakistan's exports to Russian Federation.
FPCCI Vice-President Arshad Alam said the improvement in Pakistan-Russia political relations and end to the cold war and Indian factors would help boost trade between Pakistan and Russian Federation.
