Attempt on Musharraf's life: Supreme Court moved for release of alleged attacker

An appeal was moved on Thursday against detention of Sarwar Bhatti allegedly involved in life bid on President General Pervez Musharraf near Jhanda Chichi.
Sarwar Bhatti was arrested by the security agencies last year under 2D of the Army Act 1952. The wife of Bhatti filed a habeas corpus petition saying that her husband was picked up by the intelligence officials for his alleged involvement in attack on President Musharraf.
The Lahore High Court had dismissed the petition saying that it is beyond its jurisdiction to decide the matter as Mr Bhatti was arrested under the Army Act.
She contended in her petition that her husband was forcibly taken away on December last year from a house by two army officers.
She stated that she was informed by two area residents about the abduction of her husband.
Mrs Bhatti has alleged that her husband is under illegal detention of a security agency and his life and liberty is in danger.
She contended that there is general atmosphere of harassment in the family after the illegal detention of her husband.
She argued that the Lahore High Court has jurisdiction to decide the matter but it failed to exercise its jurisdiction.
She pleaded that the LHC has ignored the conduct of the respondents, who, she said, had concealed facts from the court.
She prayed to the apex court to declare judgement illegal and order release of her husband. It is further prayed to ask detaining authorities to arrange meeting of the family with the detainee.
