Instead of seeking consultancy from abroad for restructuring of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the government should restructure the institution in indigenous style.
Pervez Hanif, The Founders' Chairman, said this here on Thursday. He further said that the control of EPB should be given to the private sector, while prominent exporters should be placed on the EPB Board, as being well conversant of problems and solutions of their respective sectors they could play pivotal role in redressing all kind of exporters' problems.
He also stressed the need for effective but professional management to strengthen the EPB role in the development of national economy. He further suggested that the EPB should also be taken out of the Commerce Ministry's control, rather it should only be answerable directly to the Prime Minister.
According to him, it was a longstanding demand of the exporters' for EBP restructuring. Thus the government should restructure the EPB while keeping in view its efficacy to enhance the country's exports, besides resolving the exporters' grievances.
The government should also provide administrative and financial autonomy to the EPB so as it could take immediate decision for redressal of problems faced by the exporters.
He said that if the government needs some pattern to follow, the example of CETRA of Taiwan could serve as a role model.
"The CETRA was developed with a view to strengthen the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and Pakistan also needs to take measures for the promotion of SMEs, which in turn would gear-up the growth of national economy," he maintained.
