I visited the maritime museum with my family on the night of July 31, 2004 at 8.00. I parked my car outside the museum; the parking attendant came and issued the parking ticket No 8360 to me.
We spent around 2 hours there and left the premises at 10.00 pm. When I came back to my car No ABP 513 Suzuki Mehran, I found that the two rear wheels were not there and the car was standing on stones at the rear. It shocked my family and me. I called the parking attendant and asked him who did this and where the wheels were.
He answered that he did not know and informed me that the same thing had happened yesterday with another guy. He called his other colleague and showed him the car.
I reported the matter to the Naval Security staff Babur and Jamshed at the entrance of the maritime museum. They asked me to lodge a complaint in writing (which I did), that we would take up the matter with our OI/C. When I told him that the parking attendant was saying that the same thing happened the other day, they responded that they did not know about that incident because they had been put on duty from today. I went to see the OI/C on 2nd August 04 at 0800 am. As a routine, he asked me to give the complaint in writing and that he would take necessary action.
He also told me that the matter had been brought to his notice that very night but that they would take action on my application.
I had one spare wheel; one can understand how difficult it was to arrange two wheels at the same time, in the night, to take the car back home. My nephew and his family were also with me and luckily he brought the Suzuki car instead of the Toyota, which he also had. He gave me his spare wheel and then we were able to return home safely.
Two weeks ago, one of my neighbours went to the maritime museum with his family. They found the security staff beating two guys. One of his family members intervened and asked them why they were beating him. The security staff also started beating him and he was severely injured.
Under the nose of the security personnel, these kinds of incidents took place and show the lack of appropriate security arrangements, proper training of staff who might be the involved. So please be careful if you are planning a visit to the Maritime Museum.
