London white sugar futures closed down on speculator profit taking in slim turnover on Thursday and appeared to take a breather after a recent fund-driven rally, traders said.
October fell $1.7 or 0.68 percent to $249 a tonne in volume of 1,371 lots, having moved between $247 and $250.5.
December was down $0.3 or 0.1 percent to $253.4 in volume of 160 lots.
"There was some selling in New York by funds. Today we saw some speculator or fund selling in London, but it has been very quiet in volume terms," one trader said.
