China and Pakistan concluded their first-ever-joint anti-terrorism drill at the north-west border of China on Friday afternoon.
The drill, jointly held by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the armed forces of Pakistan, was held on 4,000-meter mountains in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The county, located on the Pamir plateau, borders Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The exercise, codenamed "Friendship-2004," included joint command headquarters drill and troops' tactic exercise, involving more than 200 officers and soldiers from the two military.
According to PLA sources, the joint command headquarters drill included information exchange and situation assessment, and the troops drill practised encirclement, assault and mop-up.
Zheng Shouzeng, vice-commander of the PLA's Lanzhou Military Area Command, said at the closing ceremony that the joint military anti-terrorism exercise would be conducive to consolidating friendship between the two armies, expanding bilateral co-operation in non-conventional security fields and improving the capacity of both to combat terrorism.
