Punjab government would upgrade all the Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs) of the province, whereas the THQs of Depalpur, Arifwala, Rajanpur and Jampur have already been upgraded with a cost of Rs 160 million.
Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Punjab Health Minister, expressed these views while presiding over a departmental meeting, held to review the improvement work of tehsil headquarters hospitals/district headquarters hospitals, revamping of basic health units, establishment of medical colleges and revamping of central laboratory here on Saturday.
The minister said that at least seven specialist doctors would be appointed in THQs and proper residential facilities would be provided to the specialists/doctors at THQs level.
"Under the project, special units of surgical, medical and ICUs would be set up at THQs," he added.
He directed the health department officials to keep close liaison with the high ups of finance and planning and development departments for early completion of the project.
