The Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) at its 165th meeting on July 30 and 31, 2004 has elected the following office bearers for 2004-05 with effect from September 6, 2004.
Zafar Iqbal Sobani elected as President. He is a fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan as well as a fellow member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan. Zafar has the distinction of being the first President of ICAP elected from industry, whereas over 80 percent of ICAP's membership are employed in industry.
Zafar is working as Director Finance of Century Paper & Board Mills Limited (Lakson Group), since 1990. He completed his audit training with A. F. Ferguson & Co, and has also worked in Saudi Arabia for several years.
Zafar was first elected to the ICAP council for the term 1997-2000 and again reelected for the term 2001-2005. He had been elected vice president of ICAP for 2000-01 and has served on many of the ICAP committees in the past. He was also elected chairman of ICAP's Southern Regional Committee for 1996-97. He has represented ICAP at a number of international forums, including the International Federation of Accountant's Information Technology Committee.
Syed Asad Ali Shah elected as Vice President (South). He is a fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan as well as an associate member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan.
Asad Ali Shah is a partner in M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co (a member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu), Chartered Accountants, and is the leader of Audit and Enterprise Risk Services and Global Client Service Director in this firm. Asad All Shah specialises in providing assurance and consulting services with an aggregate experience of over 20 years.
He is also one of the leading trainers and a regular presenter at professional seminars on the subjects of corporate governance, internal control, auditing, accounting, taxation, internal auditing and other related professional subjects.
Asad Ali Shah has been regularly writing articles in professional magazines and leading newspapers on various subjects, including macro economy, federal budget and other related matters.
Asad All Shah was elected to the ICAP council for the term 2001-2005, and has served on several of its committee's. He is also the chairman of the Quality Control Review Committee and Banking Sub-Committee of the Institute.
He remained as advisor to chief minister Sindh for finance, with powers and status of finance minister for a period of three years.
Hidayat Ali elected as Vice President (North). He is a fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan having completed his audit training with Ford, Rhodes, Robson Morrow, Islamabad in 1986.
After having worked in industry for few years, he entered public practice in 1994 as the sole proprietor of Ali Associates. He is also a partner in the firm of chartered accountants, Zahid Jamil & Co. He is based in Peshawar and specialises in management consultancy work.
Hidayat Ali was elected to the ICAP council for the term 2001-2005 and is a member on several of its committees. He is currently on the board of governors of Gandhara University, Peshawar and also honorary secretary/member of the board of governors of Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants. He was elected as honorary secretary of ICAP's Northern Regional Committee for 2000-2001.-PR
