Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co Ltd has over the years achieved remarkable success in export of engineering goods and services in the entire region. It is the only Multinational Company in it's category in Pakistan which is exporting its international brand from Pakistan.
Today Siemens is exporting Industrial Automation, Motors, Diesel Generating Sets, Switchgear, Distribution and Power transformers to Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Kuwait, Turkey and Afghanistan. In the field of services Siemens Pakistan is providing expert services for IT, Instrumentation & Control, Power Plant Service to Siemens Projects in Germany, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, China, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. Turnkey state of the art High Voltage Grid Stations for Gulf States is another speciality of Siemens Pakistan.
The young talented engineers from Siemens Pakistan are second to none in the world, whether it is Engineering & Design, Project Management or control/ Automation Tasks. It is a matter of pride for the country that our Engineers armed with the expertise and training acquired at Siemens are now welcomed with open arms for their technical expertise and efficiency around the globe.
It is because of these efforts that the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry has declared Siemens Pakistan the winner of two Export Trophies. The two trophies are as under:
BEST EXPORT PERFORMANCE TROPHY ON ENGINEERING PRODUCTS (ELECTRICAL) - SPECIAL MERIT TROPHY ON ENGINEERING SERVICES:
For any export the standard is repeat orders that establishes the quality of the product and satisfaction of the customer.
Siemens Pakistan has many satisfied customers who generate repeat orders on a regular basis and thus stamp their seal of approval on the quality of Siemens products and services and the dependability of their timely delivery and after sales service.
The ISO certified operations coupled with the already high standards of Siemens around the globe create a winning combination not only for the company but also the customer.
Last year Siemens Pakistan Business Unit Transformers was awarded the Quality Trophy for Transformers by Siemens Germany. This was awarded in appreciation of their overall performance over several years. The criteria on which this was awarded included the following:
1. On Time Delivery
2. Minimum Internal Failure rate
3. Minimum External Failure rate
4. Quality Management System
5. Skill Matrix and Training
6. Reduction of rework cost.
Now this year again Siemens Pakistan won two quality awards for (1) Distribution and (2) Power Transformers after Siemens Germany Quality League evaluation. In this Annual evaluation, it is Quality League that decides the winners among the Transformer manufacturing factories around the globe on the basis of their Quality performance throughout the year.
This speaks volumes for the quality of Siemens products, which have penetrated into markets that did not have any presence from Pakistan since its inception in 1947. Since Engineering goods are the backbone of any exporting country this performance of Siemens Pakistan has provided Pakistan with the solid foundations for exports.
LANDMARK EXPORT ORDERS RECEIVED BY SIEMENS: Largest Export order for Siemens Pakistan in Dubai Five 132/11KV Turnkey Substations
In January and March this year Siemens Pakistan received three Contracts for the Construction of five 132/11KV Turnkey Substations in Dubai. This is the largest export order for Siemens Pakistan worth over Rs 3 Billion.
After successfully completing the two turnkey substation projects in Dubai in 2002 together with Siemens Germany, Siemens Pakistan was successful in pre-qualifying itself as the Main Contractor.
For the first time Siemens Pakistan succeeded in acquiring the order for five turnkey substations as main contractor with Siemens Germany as internal sub-supplier of 132KV GIS.
THREE CONTRACTS - 5 STATIONS: The total project package of five 132/11KV substations consists of three separate contracts. One order is directly from the State Utility DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority).
The other two Contracts are from the construction Invertors of Dubai. The MAF Group (MAJID AL FUTTAIM) is constructing the largest shopping mall of the world which is scheduled to be completed by 2006.
This is over 800 million Dollar project. The Contract for construction of 132KV substation to feed the EMIRATES MALL was received in March this year.
"EMIRATES MALL" shall provide a huge shopping area, Hotels and state of the art Sports Complex - including here football fields and area for winter sports with 400 meter long ice track.
The other project is the Burj Dubai Tower project. This Tower is constructed by EMAAR properties, one of the leading Construction investors of Dubai. This project is expected to be completed by 2008 and is supposed to be highest building of the world.
The power supply to this tower, whose height will be within 500 to 600 meters, shall be supplied by a 132/11KV Substation, which Siemens Pakistan has contracted to construct on turnkey basis.
Siemens is also unmatched is its references for export of MES solutions. It has been exporting turnkey solutions for the supply and Services of Electrical, Instrumentation, Drives, SCADA, DCS and MES Solutions to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan since the year 1997. Siemens MES Solutions have been catering to different segments of the industry (Cement, Water, Chemical and Oil & Gas) especially in turnkey projects working hand in hand with International Plant suppliers/Consultants like Holderbank Switzerland, IHI Japan. One of MES major exports is Software Engineering services as well as Training and Commissioning services.
Siemens Pakistan is presently exporting goods and services to the tune of nearly US $10 millions to these countries and this is increasing with each passing year due to the high quality and reliability of Siemens products. Siemens Pakistan is the only company of its kind, which earns more in exports and import substitution than it spends on import of raw material thus making a valuable addition to the foreign exchange earnings of the country. With Siemens Pakistan products establishing new markets the doors are now open for all exporters to take advantage of the trust and confidence in Pakistani products established by this company.
It is fortunate that presently there is an emphasis from the Government of Pakistan on export as envisioned in Engineering Vision 2010. Increase in export of Engineering goods and services will incase directly and indirectly employment opportunities and will enhance engineering base in Pakistan.
Following is a break-up of exports and services from Siemens Pakistan.
