The production of spurious drugs in Sindh has reached its peak and sale is flourishing all over the province. Mostly over-the-counter (OTC) sale of medicines is more suspicious and their sale has gained momentum.
Medical stores without licences are running in small towns and substandard medicines are on sale. Lack of inspection from the Health authorities is attributed to the promotion of the illegal business.
It is a generally known that medical stores in Pakistan are selling medicines of all sorts without prescription of a qualified doctor.
It is learnt that sellers of spurious drugs are playing with the lives of the patients.
Most of the medical store keepers are reportedly greasing the palms of health inspectors and they overlook the unlawful sale of drugs.
Now due to hue and cry the health authorities are reported to have collected some samples from various places and sent to Quality Control Laboratory for test.
The reports are yet to come. In small towns and rural areas, the OTC drugs are sold to the customers on inquiring whether he would like to have No 1 or No 2 drug.
