Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) Chairman Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum Khan (Retd) arrived here on Monday to discuss with Chinese officials the proposed plan of mills expansion.
Official sources told APP the visit will help promote Sino-Pak bilateral co-operation in the steel sector.
The Metallurgical Construction Corporation (MCC) of China has already shown keen interest in carrying out expansion of the Pakistan Steel, aimed at taking its production up to three million tonnes per annum.
The sources hoped that the MCC would provide latest technology and expertise in Pakistan Steel's expansion at a minimum possible cost.
Senior MCC Official Yang Changheng said that China was not only in a position to carry out expansion plan in most economical manner, but it was also capable of transferring latest technology.
It is hoped that Chinese government will also provide a credit on soft-term basis for up-gradation of Pakistan Steel Mills. In this connection, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed between the two countries.
