Chicago Board of Trade rough rice ended higher on Wednesday on commercial and local buying and positioning ahead of Thursday's key US Department of Agriculture crop data, brokers said.
CBOT rice futures closed up 1 cent to 15 cents per hundredweight, with September up 15 cents at $7.82, and November up 10 cents at $7.84 per cwt. Man Financial and local traders sold September and November, while light profit-taking was noted from R.J. O'Brien and Reface Inc, a CBOT rice broker said.
"FC Stone also sold November, which could have been hedge sales," he added. The US long grain rice harvest is underway, with the USDA reporting on Monday that six percent of the US rice crop had been harvested.
