Here is how major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCKS EXCHANGE: Weak chemicals stocks pushed European share indexes to their lowest close of the year as oil prices continued to rise and patchy US data fuelled concerns about the economic recovery.
Swedish savings products group Skandia was among the worst performers, shedding 8.5 percent after saying it would not use its cash to pay shareholders, while watchmaker Swatch tumbled after saying it had launched an internal investigation following allegations of tax evasion.
The FTSE Eurotop-300 index of pan-European blue chips closed 0.4 percent lower at 940.9 points, its lowest closing level since December 17 2003.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 3,646.99 points, down 11.12 or 0.30 percent and losing 80.75 in the week.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3,484.84 points, down 9.39 or 0.27 percent, having lost 43.8 points since last Friday.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 5,309.8 points, down 46.2 or 0.86 percent and down 93.3 over the week.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed 19,833 points, down 20 or 0.10 percent, shedding 318 points in the week.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Stocks closed 0.3 percent lower, led by resources and some banks, but media giant News Corp staged a strong comeback from 16-month lows, helped by bargain-buying.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell 10.0 points, or 0.29 percent, to a two-month low of 3,477.8, down 52.8 points over the week.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: Stocks jogged higher, bolstered by another good performance by mining firms such as Angloplat and Harmony Gold, but some other shares suffered profit-taking.
The all-share index added 71.24 or 0.68 percent on the day to 10,567.57 points, gaining 340.06 points during the week.
The All Gold index closed at 1,824.85 points, up 68.52 or 3.90 percent, up on the week by 141.98.
The Industrial index closed at 7,299.32 points, down 33.34 or 0.45 percent, having gained 17.96 points since last Friday.
