Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammed Aslam Sanjarani on Tuesday paid a detailed three-hour visit to Lyari Expressway from Mauripur Bridge to Sohrab Goth.
During the visit, he was accompanied by Karachi DCO Mir Hussain Ali and the project director, Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha.
The chief secretary reviewed the pace of work at Mauripur Bridge, Bihar Colony. Shershahm Bakra Piri, Dhobhi Ghat, Old Golimar, Gujro Nullah, Tin Hattai, Liaquatabad, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Lasbella, Rashid Minhas Road, F.B. Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Sohrab Goth.
He appreciated the performance of the City District Government, the Lyari Expressway Development Project and the National Highway Authority, and called for timely completion of the schemes.
At the end of the visit, LEW and NHA Project Director Barakzai gave a briefing and assured that 75 percent work will be completed by December 2004.
The Sindh chief minister directed that a presentation on the rehabilitation package be given at the next meeting, and expressed the desire that all development schemes of Sindh, including mega projects of Karachi be completed as per directive of the President.
He directed the project director and the city government to get the right of way at the earliest, and hand it over to NHA and speed up the work on available right of way.
Aslam Sanjarani observed that completion of the Expressway will prove a milestone in solving the problems of people and providing better traffic system and transport facilities.
During the briefing, he was informed that so far the city government has achieved over 16 km right of way and handed over the same to NHA.
The Chief Secretary directed that 60 percent right of way be made available by September 15 and 75 percent by December.
After completion of Lyari Expressway, the 16.5-km journey will he covered in 20 minutes. It will have no speed-breaker or signal facilitating the traffic flow on one hand and reducing noise and pollution on the other as the vehicles will move at the designed speed of 80-km an hour.
The Expressway will have barbed fenced on both sides to stop entry of animals.
It was pointed out that it will not be possible to dump garbage into the river while existing one will be cleared.
