The government will spend Rs 60 million for establishment of 'National Centre for Drought, Environmental Monitoring and Early Warning System' in the country during the current financial year aimed at producing a well organised data collection in the country.
According to a Planning Commissions report, the project is already under execution by the Meteorology Department.
The centre will be established with an estimated cost Rs 164.844 million including foreign exchange component Rs 56.601 million, the report said.
The centre will collect data from the network stations in the region and co-ordinate with the voluntary agencies operating the network besides helping them in running the stations smoothly.
This centre will also provide a facility of storing and processing data besides transmitting it to the National Centre in the desired format.
It may be recalled here that during the period under review, an expenditure of Rs 14 million has already been incurred on the payment of land.
