Lack of resources is impeding tourism development in Pakistan. This was stated by Muhammad Habib Khan, Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), while talking to Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
He said that tourism sector needs a rapid investment to improve the infrastructure but due to paucity of funds it has not been able to achieve the desired goal.
About the image of Pakistan he said that they did best in building the confidence of tourists which eroded after 9/11 event. "Pakistan has rebuilt its image in the world after the 9/11 tragedy through positive policies and effective publicity", he added.
The 9/11 tragedy disturbed the world tourism and Pakistan was also affected from the incident, however, Pakistan has succeeded in restoring the confidence of tourists, he said.
On marketing and publicity of tourism in Pakistan he said that they visited various countries including China, Dubai and other Middle Eastern countries where different conferences were held for projecting image of Pakistan.
To explore other tourist spots PTDC was focusing on Balochistan, Chitral and Sindh besides Northern Areas, and constructing five more motels at a cost of Rs 51 million in different areas of country, he added.
He further said that PTDC is also focusing to upgrade the infrastructure in the tourism sector, which was essential to facilitate the foreign and local tourists.
He was also of the view that they were making efforts to promote the industry from category 'C' to 'B'.
Malik said that they were interested to involve private sector in tourism industry to facilitate local and foreign tourists.
