All the provinces have agreed to make concerned efforts to forward rational and minimum possible indents to Irsa, remaining within their water shares, keeping in view the present critical water situation in the reservoirs.
This was unanimously decided in Irsa Advisory Committee's meeting held here on Wednesday at Indus River System Authority's Headquarters.
Irsa Secretary, M Sohail Ali Khan while giving the details of the meeting said that the meeting was held in view of the critical water availability situation particularly during the current Kharif season.
He said the provinces also expressed their willingness that available water will be utilised instead of demanding share to facilitate Irsa in better regulation.
The Secretary Irsa said the provinces have unanimously decided that since the current standing crops are of more significance to the country's prosperity, preference should be accorded to their better yield.
He said besides five members of Irsa, the provincial secretaries of Irrigation and Power, representatives of provincial secretaries of Agriculture and representatives of Wapda attended the meeting, chaired by Rahim Khan Zarkun, Chairman and Member (Balochistan), Irsa.
He said that under the current deficient water inflow situation and scarcity of storage in the reservoirs, Irsa presented revised anticipated water availability for the balance period of the current season to the Committee and suggested two options to maintain water position in the reservoirs.
The first option was to impose 21 percent shortage on provincial shares, so as to make available about 2 to 2.5 MAF of water in the reservoirs for the coming Rabi season under maximum availability scenario.
