The visiting Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, Phil Goff, called on Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar and exchanged views on multilateral, regional and bilateral trade here on Wednesday.
Both the countries were interested in the resolution of issues relating to subsidies on agricultural products.
Humayun informed the visiting delegate that 25 percent of the country's GDP was related to agriculture and in case the domestic support and subsidies are eliminated, it would create an environment of competition and boost national economy.
There was a consensus of opinion that the framework agreement concluded in Geneva was an important landmark to achieve progress on Doha Development Agenda.
The visiting minister said that his country was in the process of concluding a Free Trade Agreement with China in near future and the negotiations to have a similar agreement with the United States were also underway. He appreciated Pakistan's policy towards Afghanistan.
Phil Goff emphasised upon the need to enhance commerce and trade relations with Pakistan.
