Federal Housing and Works Minister Safwanullah has assured the industrialists to use all his energies and channels for resolving infrastructure problems confronting the industrial estates of Karachi.
He was speaking to a group of industrialists and traders from various industrial zones of Karachi city in the office of Manzar Alam, Chairman, Advisory Board, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), Karachi, when he visited Korangi industrial area.
The Minister said that he was making all-out efforts to safeguard the interest of industrialists of Karachi and has always raised his voice at the National Assembly forum in their favour, and added that the present government "is doing its best" to address the infrastructure problems of Karachi industrial zones.
He agreed that for rapid industrialisation and to meet the challenges of globalized economy, overall improvement in infrastructure facilities in existing industrial zones was a must. "We as elected representatives from Karachi always talk about your problems in National Assembly and at all other forums of the government," the Minister added.
He assured the industrialists that he would take up with the concerned authorities the problems pointed out by Manzar regarding shortage of electricity, water and gas and other related issues.
Earlier, Manzar Alam gave a detailed briefing about the multifarious problems confronting the industries located in the industrial zones of Karachi.
He said that the world has now converted into a global village and as such it is imperative to make the country economically strong without which political stability cannot be achieved.
Paying tributes to the economic agenda of President Pervez Musharraf and its implementation by Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz in letter and spirit, it has been possible to get rid of the clutches of IMF.
He emphasised the need of boosting exports which is the dire need of the hour and for which the government would have to ensure provision of better infrastructure facilities and reduce the cost of production so as to enable the exporters to compete successfully in the international markets.
He said that in order to meet the challenges of WTO regime, it is but essential to accord top priority to improvement of infrastructure facilities in existing industrial estates, and added that the steps announced in the budget 2004-05, if implemented sincerely, would help attract both domestic and foreign investment.
