With the auction of wireless local loop (WLL) spectrum for Southern Telecom Region-I (STR-I) and Western Telecom Region (WTR), held here on Wednesday, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed the process of bidding for 12 out of 14 regions for grant of licences.
Auction for the remaining two regions, Southern Telecom Region (STR-V) and Karachi Telecom Region (KTR) would be held on Thursday.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General Shahzada Alam Malik (Retd) presided over the bidding sessions of STR-I and WTR. Member Finance Nehmatullah Toor and Member Technical Naseem Ahmed Vohra were also present on the occasion.
For bidding of spectrum of 1.9 GHz in STR-I, WorldCall gave the highest bid of Rs 134 million and got one block, while the other two blocks were secured by Telecard and PTCL at the matching cost as per the prescribed criteria.
DVCOM gave the highest bid of Rs 39 million for the spectrum of 450 MHz and obtained both the available carriers.
One block was available in the frequency of 479 MHz, which was won by WorldCall at the highest bid of Rs 8 million.
For spectrum of 3.5 GHz, there were seven contestants, Telecard, DVCOM, PTCL, WorldCall, Burraq, Warid and Sachal Satcom and each got one block at the basic cost of Rs 580,000.
For WTR, in the spectrum of 1.9 GHz, Telecard offered the highest bid of Rs 75 million and obtained one block, while other two blocks went to DVCOM and PTCL.
In the spectrum of 450 MHz, both the carriers were taken by DVCOM at the highest bid of Rs 37 million.
For spectrum of 479 MHz, only one block was available which was secured by the highest bidder WorldCall at Rs 10 million.
In the spectrum of 3.5 GHz, seven blocks were available out of which six were allocated to Telecard, DVCOM, PTCL, WorldCall, Burraq Telecom and Warid WLL at the base price of Rs 580,000. One block was kept in reserve.
