Pakistan ranks sixth in world population

The world population reached 6.4 billion in 2004 and it continues to grow by some 80 million each year.
The population of Pakistan, who stands sixth in world population, in mid-2004 is 159.2 millions, births per 1000 are 34 and deaths per 1000 are 10.
The figures were released by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) at a press conference here Tuesday at the Washington Press Club.
Senior Demographer and author of the report, Carl Haub said that Pakistan's rate of natural increase in population growth is 2.4 percent and projected population in the year 2025 and 2050 would be 228.8 and 295.0 millions, respectively.
The projected population change in 2004-2050 would be 85 percent.
The infant mortality rate is 85; the total infertility rate is 4.8.
Percent of population of age 15 and 65 plus respectively stands at 42 and 4, life expectancy at birth: 61- male: 60 and female: 62.
Urban population figures: 34 percent. 0.1 and 0.1 is the percent of population of 15 to 49 years of age with HIV/AIDS, at the end of years 2001 and 2003, respectively.
Percent of married women using contraception: all methods and modern methods- respectively are: 28 percent and 20 percent.
The government view of birth rate is: 'high.' Per capita income in 2002 in US dollars is 1,960.
Area of country's square miles is: 307,375, and population per square mile is: 518
The report says, that the world's ten largest countries in 2004 are (in millions) in the same order of precedence: China (1,300), India (1,087), United States (294), Indonesia (219), Brazil (179), Pakistan (159), Russia (144), Bangladesh (141), Nigeria (137) and Japan (128).
In the year 2050, the top ten country figures would stand at (in millions, and in the given order of precedence): India (1,628), China (1,437), United States (420), Indonesia (308), Nigeria (307), Pakistan (295), Bangladesh (280), Brazil (221), Congo (181) and Ethiopia (173).
Three of the most populous countries in 2004 are the United States, Russia, and Japan. By 2050, only one, the United States is expected to remain in that top 10 list.
At the end of year 2003, percentage of adults with HIV/AIDS, ages 15-49 were: Swaziland (38.8), South Africa (21.5), Zambia (16.5), Uganda (4.1), Haiti (5.6), Russia (1.1), India (0.9), US (0.6) and Vietnam (0.4).
