Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday said that the Karakoram Highway (KKH) was a symbol of everlasting friendship between Pakistan and China and will bring the people of the two countries further close.
Talking to a seven-member Chinese delegation led by Song Deheng, Charge'd Affairs, who called on him at the PM House, he said the relationship between the two countries would further deepen with the construction of Gwadar Port and other projects being undertaken with the Chinese assistance.
Shujaat said the government plans to build a "Friendship House" at Gwadar to honour the time-tested friendship between the two great nations.
He was informed that the first phase of the port at Gwadar will be function by December 25.
Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz was also present during the meeting. The delegation thanked the Prime Minister for naming the Thahkot bridge at Karakoram Highway as the Youyi (friendship) bridge in the memory of those Chinese workers and engineers who sacrificed their lives while constructing the mountainous road.
The Charge'd Affairs Song Deheng said the people and the government of Peoples Republic of China are grateful to the Government of Pakistan for this noble gesture.
This will remind the commuters, on this road, of everlasting great friendship between the peoples of two countries, he added.
The Chinese delegation appreciated the security arrangements for their wonders at Gwadar.
Minister for Kashmir affairs G.G. Jamal, Secretary Communications, Chairman National Highway Authority and Director General, Frontier Works Organisation were also present in the meeting.
